You are mostly right and I agree everyone should know this information. However a couple issues, if you firearm is covered by a coat or shirt then it can be considered Concealed carry and may result in a charge if you do not have a CCW Permit. Be safe make sure it is completely open carried. Carrying in a vehicle with CCW it must be on your person in a holster; or secured in a box or bag with a latch or snap closure in plain sight (glove box or center console meets this requirement); or secured in a box not in plain sight that has a lock on it. If you do not have a CCW then it must be unloaded. and even a loaded magazine that fits that weapon counmts as it being loaded even if the magazine is not in the weapon and are separated. So without CCW you must empty the magazine and separate the ammo from the weapon such that you must exit the vehicle to load the weapon. (ie a box of ammo in the trunk or tool box of truck and the magazine empty and weapon in the cab of vehicle).
Then of course this brings up the other issues. Those persons who have weapon priveledges revoked (felony or DV convictions). The constitution which overrides all other laws in the country states that "the right to bear arms shall not be infringed" so then techinically they cannot prevent anyone from carrying a weapon.
