Obama won on assurances of moderation and concern for the common man. He promised fiscal responsibility, transparency in government and rejection of lobbyists. Never did he hint of the mammoth debts he would create, the reductions in benefits Medicare recipients would absorb, the increased premiums and taxes his health care plan would impose on working Americans, the exportation of American jobs which would result from his Cap and Tax bill, the decline in the value of the American dollar, the increasing rate of U.S. troop deaths in Afghanistan or his efforts to suppress freedom of speech. We naively assumed that he would honor his oath to support the Constitution of the United States.

We didn't know that he'd earn a Nobel prize by apologizing for America to the rest of the world which we had defended through and after the Cold War and to which we had granted billions of dollars in foreign aid. Never did we suspect that he would remain silent while terrorist nations and overseas dictatorships castigated our nation.

A majority of us voters were fooled by his eloquent speeches and encouraging promises. Over the past 10 months we have learned enough to suffer severe voters' remorse. But we'll still be paying for his irresponsible spending for generations to come. We were trusting enough to let him win our votes through promises he never intended to fulfill.

Obama will face a much less trusting electorate when he seeks reelection in 2012. Sadder but wiser voters will have their say.
